How to Grow

From seed

Choose a sunny spot with well-drained soil.

Enrich soil.

Plant the mother bulbs directly, planting them 5-7 cm deep and 15-25 cm apart, and water well.

Do not water until seedlings emerge, then feed seedlings weekly with plant food.

In a pot

Choose a pot at least 30cm wide and deep.

Position in full sun or part shade.

Fill with quality potting mix.

Follow seed-> seedling -> harvest guide.

Ready to harvest

Harvest by cutting the green leaves above the white stem.

This will help encourage leafier growth.

Replant successive crops every 3-4 weeks to extend your harvest window.

Collect seed

Shallot leaves will begin to wilt once the bulb has matured.

When they have formed small bulbs, harvest the plants and place them in a warm, dry spot away from direct sunshine to cure.

Cure shallots for 2-3 weeks after harvesting by storing them in a warm place away from direct sunlight.

When the shallots feel paper-dry on the outside, clip off the tops and roots, and lightly brush off loose soil before storing the shallots in a cool, dry place.

Arrange them in a single layer or hang them in mesh bags.
